This all raises a question for me: would ancient humans be recognised as Reclaimers purely because they're humans, or is the Librarian's genesong strictly required? If the UNSC stumbled across the ancient human equivalent of a shield world, and woke the survivors, how would those humans react to everything?

Guilty spark mistakes chief for a forerunner repeatedly.... cut forerunner remains are sharing the human skeleton... the librarian is a job term in all terminals other than ones "Frankie" wrote, where she is a individual. the forerunners find a planet with a species closely related/offshoot to them, finally the luminary and mendicant bias in contact harvest both identity all humans on harvest as reclaimers/ the descending species of THE FORERUNNERS, this discovery by the prophets finding that their gods lived among them "SOME OF YOU WERE LEFT BEHIND" sparking the war... The contradictions during bungies era were mostly from "Frankie" who so conveniently shaped the lore into his image.. the humans WERE the forerunners...

Maybe all humans can access forerunner tech but need to have some kind of know how to access things like forerunner computers and switches. Hense the elites trying to find certain humans.

I remember hearing that the halo 3 terminals were made by 343i in their early days and that Bungie didn't like them (or made by people who would go on to make 343i lore). I belive that's the reason why Halo 3's lore is a bit confusing, the terminals and the rest of Halo 3 are conflicting with each other, because different teams with different takes on the lore were working on them.

Isnt the entire point of the human covenant war a mistranslation of reclaimer as 'artifact' (i dont remember the exact word)? Covvies find Harvest, their luminary shows there are millions of artifacts down there, covvies go down and cant find any of the artifacts, just a bunch of hairless apes in their place...

You forgot the scientist from the spirit of fire, anders i think her name was, she was able to use many forerunner systems, even to the point of 'flying' a halo array rom the ark and was able to manipulate the ark systems on her own without ai help.

Common misconception that the reapers kill civilizations. Harvest them, forcefully digitize them, and enslave them? Yes. But they don't necessarily kill.

Frank O'Connor was the one to make the Terminals in Halo 3 then lead 343i, so his vision was literally different than Bungie's at large. Bruh

I gently disagree with this: there a LOT of humans in both 343 and bungie games who interact with forerunner things: Chief (of course) Miranda keyes in Halo 2 Johnson in Halo 3 Halsey talks with THE LIBRARIAN in halo 4 Spartan ops Glassman manages to break the Librarian "protection" in the Spartan ops Professor anders is the center of the plot in halo wars 1 due to be a reclaimer and in HW2 creates a HALO So, imo it's easier to suppose that all humans are reclaimers (or at least the "hamanush" created by the forerunners after the Human-Forerunner war)

You're forgetting that 343 have retconned their own lore several times which means the lore is pretty much a cluster fuck rn and it's why for me, everything after Halo 3 is pretty much fan fiction

Didn't a sentinel on Ghost of Onyx called Ash a reclaimer but then called him a subspecies/ aboriginal.

Do we have a single example of any human who could not activate Forerunner technology?

The Reapers must have come to conclusion about Synthetic Life always exterminating all other organic life in galaxy (after they kill their own creators) because it must have happened in the Milky Way galaxy millions if not billions of years ago. I always felt if the Reapers stated this or evidence was found for this, it would make the Catalyst/Reapers decisions make more sense. By stating its already happened, maybe many times, so this was the only way it found to prevent organic life from being wiped out for good. But it begs the question what happened to this Synthetic life that tried to wipe away all organic life in primordial past. Which could have been a better plot for Andromeda.

What if Lasky doesn't know what he's talking about? What if Jul doesn't know what he's talking about? They are both going off of bits they've translated from Forerunner glyphs. On the other hand, the source in Point of Light not only is more recent, but is said by something Forerunner in origin.

If we disregard that one line from Spartan Ops, which I wouldn't rate as highly on the lore tierlist as the main games, then I'd say the lore is not decided on this topic. See Divine Wind for example. The Banished are keeping a group of humans in part for their ability to interact with forerunner tech. But they do give added significance to one human who has proven this ability, as if while being a reclaimer expected, it is not certain to be common to all humans. The lore is full of examples of humans that are Reclaimers. I'd need to see some evidence of humans NOT being Reclaimers to be convinced it is not a common trait.

I can appreciate the legwork but I can't bring myself to see 343i's work as canon Halo, game or otherwise. It would be easier to digest by considering Bungie's and 343i's canons as distinct separate universes of their own to their respective works, not even branching timelines given the severity of retcons made.

In the TV series The basically stated that the DNA to make super soldiers was found on another planet and that Halsey use that type of DNA strand to find others that are humans just like that DNA strand watch Kane from the forerunners because it was also a forerunners installation

Yeah because if you think about it on the game on the game called The Reach Halsey couldn't exactly access the forerunners technology she had to actually hack the forerunners technology just like the person that I ended up finding the latchkey you couldn't exactly access the forerunners thing that they actually had

I feel like both is true to a point. In the Forerunner books they point out how the Forerunners have classes like builder class, warrior class, and so on. I realize that I have no proof of this at all. This is just my opinion on this. But there might be different Reclaimers for different things. Like the Elites are looking for the builder class of Reclaimers, and Master Chief may be part of the warrior class of Reclaimers. I don't know if this is true or even makes sense to anyone else, but this makes the most sense to me.

I’m convinced the are two different Lores. Bungie’s Lore and 343’s Lore. That is all.

The only way this would really get me interested would be if they kept things basically similar but: 1. Expanded enemy counts, larger open vehicle sections with larger armies - give the battles on Halo a larger scope and scale 2. Add in cut weapons and some more sandbox items 3. Updated graphics but honouring the tone of the original

You do realice that the addition of the terminals in Halo 3 was made last minute and writen in part by the dude that became the lead of 343... You didnt provide proof Bungie didnt want to make Humans the succesors of the Forerunners. You provide the proof that OConnor may have wanted to changed it as he wanted... All the way back in Halo 3

I liked it better when Reclaimers were just humans and not have selected "Chosen Ones".

In the logic of being the reclaimer, neuralphysics can actually explain this in a sense. We're the equivalent of a consciousness like the Gravemind, able to see across time and space, witness and influence events in our favour, and control multiple entities across different times

It seems to me that people who naturally exhibit the traits of Exceptional People (from the perspective of the story being told) are always Reclaimers, which makes me think that I have the order of operations wrong, and actually people who display the ability to be called (or act like) Reclaimers are naturally predisposed to be an Exceptional Person.

Consider the quote in favour of all humans being reclaimed, it said "dormant, but never gone", what if at this current moment in time, only some humans have had their "genesong" gene activated, or however that works, and that would mean that humanity as a whole one day would all be reclaimers, but not yet at the date of the current story?

The problem with 343's treatment of the Spartans is they keep on trying to turn them into generic mass marketable slop machines no different to your normal garden variety super hero movie. That's not what Halo is. That's not what it ever was.

According to books series: ancient humans (who lived at same era than Forerunners) were the selected specie to own The Mantle of Responsibility, but the Forerunner stoled for them. Humans started a war reclaming what was his, that's why Forerunners called "Reclaimers". The librarian supported the ancient humans and fought with her husband to save them from the Halos' blast. The Didact accepted on the condition that his evolution be reverted to a more primitive stage. The librarian accepted the condition, but she hid the secrets of the reclaim in the human genome, which would one day awaken to take over the Mantle of Responsibility. Hence all humans are Reclaimers, but they are not yet ready. This evolutionary process can be accelerated (the Librarian did it to the Master Chief in Halo 4) to start the Reclamation early.

Interesting discussion, but I think you are wrong. All humans are reclaimers of the mantle of responsibility and have access to forerunner technology. 1) Miranda Keyes who isn’t a Spartan or a playable character was used to activate the Halo in Halo 2 and the lesser ark in Halo 3. Of note, Johnson was another possible candidate as in Halo 3-the covenant mission mid level cutscene he says kill me then kill yourself to Miranda. 2) The Harbinger and Didact’s dialogue do point to and suggest that it is all of humanity that are reclaimers. The didactic takes issue with all of humanity rather than just the reclaimers for example and same thing with the Harbinger. 3) I think narrator bias is important when considering Latsky’s line about reclaimers vs the librarians. The Librarian, you would expect would be the most knowledgeable of the two about forerunner technology. Latsky’s line could be explained be he/ the elites he’s referring to had incomplete information. Interested in hearing your thoughts to this.

I imagine there are tiers of reclaimer. Any human can be used to activate forerunner tech because best of my knowledge, we have never seen it fail to work for a human before without an external reason like power loss or something. But the Chief and some others might have extra of that forerunner DNA lying around so they don't even know what they are doing and it happens. Like any human can push a button and the button will activate. But Master Chief walks up and just instinctively knows exactly what button to press.
